Beauty and Well-Being!

Have you ever stopped to think about the meaning of well-being? If we go back in history, the term first appeared in the 16th century to designate the satisfaction of physical needs, while in the 18th century it referred to the material situation that allowed us to satisfy the needs of existence. Nowadays, the concept has become broader and is related to the perception of health in mental, emotional, social and physical aspects. In general, we can divide the meaning into four parts:

  1. Physical well-being: is the overall condition of the body in relation to pathologies and physical vigor, that is, it is the absence of diseases associated with a good functioning of the metabolism.
  2. Social well-being: also called “quality of life”, it is used to designate the well-being of a society as a whole, encompassing monetary wealth and access to goods and services, but also its degree of freedom, pleasure, innovation and environmental health.
  3. Mental well-being: is the emotional balance between internal and external experiences, that is, being at peace with yourself and with others, accepting the demands of life, knowing how to deal with all types of emotions, living life to the fullest, respecting the law and others.
  4. Economic well-being: is the part of social well-being that is related to monetary references.

Ultimately, it all comes down to a balance that keeps stress at bay. I see beauty as a key element in the concept of well-being. Beauty awakens positive thoughts in us, opens our minds and makes us create rituals that are good for us.

Just like the Nordics, I see candles as being 100% part of this well-being mindset.

Never underestimate the power of a good atmosphere, as it can transform all your experiences. It can be combined with meditative practices and allow you to create your own rituals that are good for you.

Colored candles are great for chromotherapy when used in home decor, as we can have a constant source of well-being in the comfort of our home! Chromotherapy believes that the waves emitted by colors act on the cells of our body, which can improve the balance between body and mind.

Although Feng Shui is linked to decoration, it works with candles in a different way. In this philosophy, candles are linked to the element of Fire and, when used in home decoration, they can attract recognition, energy, rhythm, action and the achievement of goals or dreams.

Candles can be used for a variety of purposes, including in spiritual and religious rituals. They can enhance our connection with our inner self or with the spiritual world, depending on the purpose. Additionally, scented candles are often used to awaken different sensations and emotions. Aromatherapy suggests that certain scents can stimulate specific areas of the brain, which can help alleviate anxiety, depression, and other symptoms.

Last but not least, contemplation, simply looking at beauty does you good! There is nothing like lighting a candle, day or night, alone or with other people, creating a cozy atmosphere, or simply looking at your candle, which allows you to reconnect with yourself, with others and with time.

Overall, we can say that candles are excellent tools for promoting well-being in various aspects of our lives. They can be used to create a calmer and more cozy environment, help with relaxation and stress relief, provide therapeutic benefits through aromatherapy, and can also be used in spiritual and religious rituals to improve our connection with our inner self or with the spiritual world. Finally, contemplating the flame of a candle can be a simple and pleasurable way to reconnect with yourself, with others, and with time, generating a very particular sense of well-being.
